The giant trevally is the largest of the trevallies: a massive, silvery fish with a domed head and high forehead. Powerful, it hunts alone or in small groups, especially at dawn and dusk. It is highly prized in sport fishing. Like other large reef predators, its flesh may carry ciguatera.

Did you know?

Ciguatera is a well-known food poisoning in Polynesia: people avoid eating large reef predators (big trevallies, barracudas, moray eels, snappers) in certain flagged areas.
