The monkey river prawn (ʻoura pape, the « freshwater shrimp ») lives in rivers, hidden under stones by day. Its larvae go down to the sea before swimming back up the rivers once young, a cycle it shares with other freshwater shrimps. It is fished and eaten on several islands.
