Description

  • 📏 up to 3 m
  • 🌊 sandy lagoons, passes, mangroves
  • 🛡️ Vulnerable (IUCN)

The sicklefin lemon shark is stocky and yellow-brown, with two almost identical dorsal fins. It likes sandy bottoms and the shallow waters of the lagoon, where the young grow up sheltered. A slow shark, it hunts fish and rays near the bottom. Its sandy colour makes it easy to spot.

Did you know?

Young lemon sharks sometimes stay for years in the same lagoon: you may meet them in very shallow water at Moorea or Bora Bora.
