Description
- 📏 up to 20 cm
- 🌊 lagoons, sandy bottoms and coral rubble
The sculptured mitten lobster is a flattened cousin of the spiny lobster: its antennae form broad shovel-shaped plates, and its body is massive and covered with tubercles. Nocturnal, it hides in reef holes by day and comes out at night to eat molluscs. It can produce a sound by rubbing its antennae against its shell.
Did you know?
Slipper lobsters such as this one are nicknamed « sea cicadas » in French because of the small creak they can make with their antennae.
