The whitebanded triggerfish has a body decorated with blue, black and white geometric patterns, like a cubist painting. It lives on the reef flat and takes refuge in holes when approached, grunting.

Did you know?

Its cousin in the North Pacific, Rhinecanthus rectangulus, is the official fish of Hawaii: the « humuhumunukunukuapuaʻa ». In Tahitian, these triggerfish are called ʻoʻiri.
