Description

  • 📏 up to 6 cm
  • 🌊 sandy beaches, just above the wave line

The horn-eyed ghost crab is as pale as sand and shoots off sideways at top speed as soon as you approach. Its eyes are carried on long stalks, some ending in a small horn. It digs a burrow on the beach, where it takes refuge by day; it comes out mostly at dusk and at night.

Did you know?

Its English name, « ghost crab », comes from its pale colour and the way it disappears suddenly into the sand.
