Description

  • 📏 up to 1.5 m
  • 🌊 lagoons, passes, outer reefs

The great barracuda is a long, slender fish with a pointed snout and a mouth full of sharp teeth. It often hangs motionless in mid-water before darting at its prey. Juveniles hunt in schools, big adults tend to be solitary. Its flesh may contain ciguatera, so it is avoided in risk areas.
