The fire dartfish is a small, slender goby, white at the front and bright red at the back, with a long, dart-like dorsal fin. It lives in pairs above its burrow and darts into it at the slightest alarm.

Its burrow is its refuge: it dives into it in a flash at the first sign of danger.
